Sri Lanka’s Cargills Bank Deepens Intellect Partnership in Decade Long Modernisation Push

Sri Lanka’s Cargills Bank Deepens Intellect Partnership in Decade Long Modernisation Push

Sri Lanka’s Cargills Bank has extended its long running technology relationship with Intellect Design Arena, choosing the Indian fintech’s Composable eMACH.ai Core Banking Architecture as the base for the next stage of its digital transformation.

The expanded programme brings the bank’s ‘Core Banking’, ‘Lending’, Trade Finance and Treasury’ functions onto one platform with a modular, cloud ready design. It covers the full range of day to day operations: bringing in new customers, handling deposits and payments, originating and servicing loans, managing credit limits and collateral, and running trade finance and treasury.

According to Intellect, the goal is to help the bank launch products faster, operate with greater resilience and keep up with changing customer expectations. The platform will be updated on an ongoing basis, and both companies describe it as a foundation for the bank’s growth over the next decade.

    Cargills Bank: What It Means

“At Cargills Bank, we are committed to continuously investing in technologies that enhance customer experience and support our long-term growth ambitions. Our relationship with Intellect has evolved over the years, built on a shared vision of innovation and trust. By expanding this partnership, we are creating a unified, future-ready banking platform that will enable us to deliver simpler, smarter and more personalised banking experiences for years to come,” said Indika Fernando, Chief Information Officer at Cargills Bank.

“Sri Lanka’s banking sector is entering a new phase of transformation, with banks investing in modern, resilient technology platforms that can support sustainable growth while delivering superior customer experiences. We are proud to deepen our long-standing relationship with Cargills Bank through this expanded engagement. By bringing together our Composable eMACH.ai Architecture across Core Banking, Lending, Treasury and Trade Finance, we are enabling the bank to operate on a unified, future-ready platform that combines operational excellence with continuous innovation. This upgrade reinforces our shared commitment to building a banking foundation that will serve Cargills Bank, its customers and the evolving financial ecosystem for the next decade,” noted Ramanan SV, CEO for India and South Asia at Intellect Design Arena.

For Cargills Bank, running core banking, lending, trade and treasury on one system could make it simpler to bring new products to market and to see each customer’s relationship with the bank in one place. That may prove useful for a lender that serves customers through branches, digital channels and supermarket counters alike. For Intellect, an existing client choosing to go further with its platform is a meaningful endorsement in a market where banks are weighing long term technology decisions carefully.

Digital Trade Outlook: This deal reflects a shift in how banks approach technology, favouring platforms that are updated continuously over systems replaced through large, disruptive projects every few years. What stands out is that Cargills Bank has brought trade finance and treasury into that same platform rather than leaving them as separate systems, which could make it easier to serve customers as their business grows from everyday banking into cross border trade.
