Mike Cahill will run product, technology and operations at Convera as executive vice president and chief operating officer, bringing the three functions under one executive. Cahill joined the commercial payments company in June as interim chief product and technology officer, after roles at Early Warning Services, the operator of Zelle, as well as PayPal, Boku and American Express.
Three further appointments complete the team. Jon Southall joins as senior vice president and chief technology officer from PayPal, where he ran the Large Enterprise Platform, which Convera says supports more than US$1.5 trillion in annual transaction volume. Tui Allen becomes senior vice president and chief product officer after roles at Ticketmaster/Live Nation and Shopify. Chris Steinig, a 25 year Convera veteran who led its technology operations, is chief information officer.
The changes support Convera’s push to combine cross border payments, FX risk management and multi currency accounts in a single platform. Its global currency accounts let businesses hold and manage more than 60 currencies. “They need to know where their money is, what it is worth and how to protect it as it moves,” group chief executive Patrick Gauthier said of the company’s clients.
Digital Trade Outlook’s View: Convera Hires From Platforms, Not Banks
Three of the four appointees come from PayPal, Ticketmaster and Shopify rather than from banking. Convera is building for clients who now expect cross border payments, FX and hedging in one software product. Putting product, technology and operations under a single chief operating officer should speed delivery. It also means that if the platform slips, the accountability sits with one person.
